Duke of Edinburgh Award Skills Section - Cookery
Complete the Skills section of your Duke of Edinburgh Award while learning an essential life skill.
Our cookery programme at The Old Bakehouse by The Lake is designed to help you build confidence in the kitchen, whether you’re preparing for university, moving away from home, or simply learning how to look after yourself independently. By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills to open any recipe book and give it a go with confidence.
Bronze Award
The Bronze Award requires 3 months (12 weeks) of skills development.
This programme includes:
5 x 2-hour hands-on tutorials at The Old Bakehouse Cookery Kitchen
7 Home Study Modules, completed independently and documented with photographs
At the end of the 12 weeks, you will be assessed, and if the required standard is achieved, your Skills Section will be signed off.

Silver Award
The Silver Award requires 6 months (24 weeks) of skills development.
This programme includes:
7 x 2-hour hands-on tutorials at The Old Bakehouse Cookery Kitchen
17 Home Study Modules, completed independently and documented with photographs
At the end of the 24 weeks, you will be assessed, and if the required standard is achieved, your Skills Section will be signed off.

Gold Award
The Gold Award requires 12 months (48 weeks) of skills development.
This programme includes:
13 x 2-hour hands-on tutorials at The Old Bakehouse Cookery Kitchen
35 Home Study Modules, completed independently and documented with photographs
At the end of the 48 weeks, you will be assessed, and if the required standard is achieved, your Skills Section will be signed off.

Commitment & Responsibility
Each student is responsible for attending all tutorials and completing all Home Study Modules.
Failure to do so may affect your final assessment and could have financial implications if additional sessions are required.

Course Fees
- 3-month / 12-week course – £300 per person
- 6-month / 24-week course – £600 per person
- 12-month / 48-week course – £1,200 per person
Booking & Payment
A place is confirmed upon receipt of a non-refundable deposit of £50 per person. Payments may be made:
- In full or
- Monthly instalments: 3 / 6 / 12 payments of £100 per person
